It was an amazing celebration of music in Haringey. There were steel bands, Haringey Vox, guitar ensembles, the Haringey Youth Orchestra (with lots of ex pupils involved), solo piano playing, Jazz bands, special school performances and many more contributors.
It was a wonderful evening and we are proud to be part of the Haringey community who can benefit from this provision.
Catherine West (MP for Hornsey and Wood Green) and David Lammy (MP for Tottenham) addressed the audience of parents and carers, school choirs and musicians from across Haringey. They talked about their pride in the borough and its diversity and the drive to encourage children from all backgrounds, ages and cultures to participate in music and singing.
This was exemplified by Peter Desmond who leads Haringey music services and who taught David Lammy to sing.
His energy and gentle persuasive manner encouraged all the children on the day to sing, play and perform at their best.
Laura Parfitt, our choir leader, conducted on the stage and the children sang beautifully.
It was a late evening for our children but parents managed to battle through the crowds to collect their children and everyone seemed to enjoy the event in this magnificent setting.
Thanks especially to Laura Parfitt for leading our section and to helpers on the day/night.
Quotes from some of the children:
" I loved the lights and the musicians- they were fantastic"
"It was great when I sang because there were other choirs singing the same pieces and it sounded amazing"
"I saw my sister singing in her school choir at APS- that was good"
"There was so much to see"
" We had out tea next to a big statue and saw trapeze artists in the park- wow!"
"It was awesome- I loved it"
